Primary Bath Remodel
We’re (semi-reluctantly) beginning to plan our primary bathroom remodel - a leaky faucet is giving us the push we desperately needed to get going. This project was low on the list of priorities as we tackled the big renovations and common spaces first, but considering we use this space daily I’m not sure why we waited so long.
The existing shower area is a small 3’x3’ footprint with no real functionality - theres little room to store shampoo or soaps and it’s impossible to get out of the spray when you want to. Not to mention, this shower doubles as our dog wash station.. picture a full grown adult man and a great dane in there. Comical.
The big needs for the space - a larger shower footprint, be easy to clean, and provide a seamless transition from the rest of the bathroom. The big want - a luxury spa feel without the price tag.
I’m inspired by a lot of bold tile choices (colors, patterns, etc.) and this feels like a space we could really make a big impact with something unique. Ultimately though, I want this space to easily flow with the rest of our home and seamlessly flex to meet my aesthetic as it shifts over the years. Thats the approach we’ve taken through the rest of our home - always keeping a neutral base that will stand the test of time, while creating space to have fun with seasonal updates, color pops, pattern plays, etc. I like to keep the door open to change things up without another big investment, and investing in a neutral base allows me that flexibility.
As we’re beginning to plan the demo and line up the contractors - here are the things we’re keeping in mind:
Remove a seldom used linen closet to expand the shower footprint
Remove the existing door and framing into the shower area to create a more visually open space
Extend the existing waterproof LVP flooring into the shower area for continuity
Selecting tile that will be bright and easy to clean without being toooo boring
Stay tuned for more as we tackle this project over the next few months - it’s going to be so good!
